marvel theme park to come …says euro disney

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

EuroDisney is in negotiations to build a Marvel-themed superheroes theme park outside of Paris. The company will sign a 20-year pact with the French government in order to build in Marne-la-Vallée up to 2030.Chief executive of Euro Disney, Philippe Gas, added that the idea for a “superheroes park” is a long-term vision that could come as late as 2020, but if work on the Disney Studios park is completed, it could be even sooner.  Wow, Europe …2020 …2030 …that is a lot of patience to be exercised by nerds around here.

tron dance party at disneyland! weeeee!

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

In a massive and creative effort to promote their upcoming film Tron : Legacy, Disney is going to be hosting ElecTRONica (ha! get it? tron-ica…ha!) dance parties on the Hollywood Pictures Backlot in their California Adventure theme park.  Truthfully, I read about this a while back.  I was just lame and not maintaining my blog at the time …but here it is, be excited!

Here’s a statement from the DisneyParks Blog:

It’s an “electrifying” experience for the entire family, filled with music, lights and some of your favorite food and beverage, all set amidst the captivating world of “TRON: Legacy!” From a dazzling dance club under the stars to an authentic recreation of Flynn’s Arcade to some radical gaming, it’s like nowhere else on the grid! Each night, we’ll feature live entertainers, complete with lasers, glow accessories and the hottest music ever to rock the grid. ElecTRONica is “the” place to dance the night away in a fantastic world that only Disney can create. Highlights for the entire family will definitely be Flynn’s Video Arcade, face painting and the TRON: Evolution video game area.

ElecTRONica will transform Disney California Adventure park Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays this Fall. TRON fans and families can also enjoy the party seven days a week during Thanksgiving week and Christmas week.

It would be the next logical step to do this.  Over the summer they put on a kid-friendly rave in the Hollywood back lot area (essentially to make up for the fact that their cool but OVER-HYPED and OVERRATED new show World of Color shuts down a majority of the park after 9).  Turns out, the kiddy rave was a great deal of fun for adults too!  It was a fun atmosphere …and California Adventure can serve alcohol (Disneyland, does not).  They make delicious mojitos served in neon cups with a plastic ice cube that blinks different colors …I lovingly referred to it as my “Blinky Drinky” …shut up, I was drinking at the time of conception.

I can only assume they use the same formula they did for their pseudo-rave will be applied to Tron.  THAT is why I am quite certain it’s going to be awesome.  It’s all the fun of the other party, but with a Tron theme …lasers.  Plus, the color scheme is way more pleasing than the bright pink/orange scheme that was there before.  Just look at that concept art!

55th anniversary limited edition ears

I WANT THIS!  I WANT IT SOOO MUCH!

This limited edition ear hat actually replicates the shape, logo and fabrication of the original Mickey Mouse Club ear hat that was featured on the show in 1955. It even comes with a limited edition woven label inside the hat, as well as a matching hangtag and comes complete in a collectible vintage hat box with velvet lining.

This hat runs in a limited number of 1,955 (get it? 1955? ha!) in celebration of the park’s 55th anniversary.

I’d say they’d be gone by the end of the week considering the ratio of people that come to the park (where you can buy it) …however, you’d have to be a serious collector or have a real love for Disney considering the ears run for a cool $89.95 (plus tax, of course).  Sigh.

mickey mouse is no longer just making arm gestures at his guests…

Disneyland is Beta testing a Mickey costume that has a moving mouth, blinks and …ready for this? TALKS.  He can respond to questions, interact to what is going on and incorporates the names of guests …personalizing the entire experience.  Evidently, as it is a new technology, there are limitations to what he can say.  The gal who took the second video said he couldn’t say “wizard” and he referred to her as “you” …but it’s pretty well rehearsed and fluid.  However, the first video I posted was extremely impressive.  He seems completely fluid to me!

Disney actually tried something similar to this at Walt Disney World. Look up ‘Dream along with Mickey’. It was a stage show from 2007. Although in that one the the controls for the mouth were in one hand (inside the glove) and the controls for the eyes were in the other. If you look closely you can see their hands move in sync with the mouth and eyes.

It will be a little while before the fully functional Mickey takes to the park full-time as he’s still a prototype getting the kinks worked out, but the process seems to be moving along nicely.  Very cool.

good news for disneyland loving pet owners!

Disneyland has finally made some renovations to their “Kennel Club!”  Okay, so this might not be exciting news to most, but when Bowser was a youngin’ and not to be trusted alone at home …not to mention being a new pass holder I would want to spend all day at the park and that wouldn’t have been fair to the poor guy’s bladder …he’d be taken to the Kennel Club.  It was fine, it was the decent price of $20.  (shocking, for Disneyland), temperature controlled and I could come and check in on him throughout the day.  Heck, you have to anyway …the place doesn’t take the dogs out and now evidently they can’t feed them either, so it’s up to the owners.  I don’t think that’s a big deal because I always wanted to drop by and see my pup anyway.  I just find it odd they used to do the feedings and now they don’t.

HOWEVER, I am happy to see that they have changed out the former cages with nicer/newer ones and spruced up the exercise yard!  There is now some AstroTurf and porous concrete (complete with a Lady and the Tramp mural).  It doesn’t sound like that big a deal, but last time it was a patch of rocks that smelled like a toilet.  Not very becoming of the pristine Disney way.  Hmm, I do sort of wonder about going to the bathroom on concrete or fake grass …doesn’t seem conducive to the smell issue.  Anyway, if there comes a need to take Bows along sometime, at least I know the accommodations should be a bit nicer for him than before.  Oh!  A finishing touch is that the kennel now provides fuzzy blankies for the dogs.  I always brought Bowser’s favorite towel and toy along, but I noticed that not all dogs are quite as spoiled.  Cute touch for those that don’t have anything in their cage with them.
