obese mcdonald’s manager sues mcdonalds for gaining weight …and wins!

Friday, November 5th, 2010

A McDonald’s manager in Brazil has successfully sued the company over $17,500, claiming that the food he ate made him gain 65 lbs while working there.  He says that the free lunches he was given, as well as sampling the food for quality contributed to his weight gain.  HA!  “sampling the food for quality.”

McDonald’s says that they will appeal the court’s decision, asserting that they serve healthy choices that the manager could have eaten if he wanted to.  While McDonald’s is notorious for being unhealthy, me thinks they might be right on this one.  The manager could have eaten the salads or done more to control the portions he ate …or even better, he could have taken his cheap fat ass elsewhere to eat a meal.  If he didn’t want to spend too much on lunches or didn’t have time to leave, I have another suggestion: bring your own lunch from home!

What an asshole…

san francisco bans happy meals until they can meet nutritional standards

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors just served McDonald’s a super-sized sad meal with a side of health-conscious justice.

They passed an ordinance yesterday that will require meals to meet nutritional guidelines if restaurants want to include a toy with the food.

This is great!  Kids don’t need to be scarfing down french fries and burgers to gain a toy, and this ordinance will help parents make sure that their children are eating healthier.  Leave it to San Francisco…

walnuts! the healthy stress/cholesterol busting snack

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

No, I’m not on an adorable fuzzy woodland creature kick.  The squirrel (whom I don’t find to be adorable …I think squirrels are shifty little bastards …bunnies ARE adorable, they’re just mean) is to represent this story.  There is a snack out there that will help relieve stress…Walnuts!

These very healthy nuts are full of compounds that help zap stress and calm you down.  According to a study from Penn State, walnuts are a stress buster. Healthy adults with high cholesterol were put on a 6 week walnut diet. These adults successfully lowered their blood pressure.  A 1 ounce serving of walnuts, about 14 shelled nuts, which is under 200 calories, is the way to help get rid of stress.

Good to know!  Walnuts, almonds and peanuts are the only ones I like, so that works out quite nicely.

just because it made me smile…

Don’t be fooled …bunnies are NOT this docile.  Put a pancake on most other rabbits and they’ll bitch slap you with their claws out.  Nonetheless, hilaaarious.

smart people drink a lot (or something like that)

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

This is the best excuse for drinking ever (if ever there was one)!

According to two long-term studies, there’s a correlation between intelligence and desire to drink.

“[The] more intelligent children in both studies grew up to drink alcohol more frequently and in greater quantities than less intelligent children,” says Liz Day at Discover magazine.

There are a couple theories as to why this happens.  One is that smarter kids spent their childhood studying, and now that they’re older are finally letting off some steam.  Another theory is that smart people “booze so we can tolerate everyone else,” says Greg at Food & Wine Blog.  Ha!  I know the second one is my reason for any mind altering substance decisions I’ve made …not that I’ve ever made any of those, no sir…

Some of that makes sense to me, then on the other hand I’ve known some some seriously giant idiots who happened to drink a lot too, probably had something to do with the drinking a lot …vicious cycle that is.
